ANNA
JEAN MAYHEW
Anna
Jean Mayhew grew up in South Carolina, spending lazy days
at the beach, fishing the Santee River, criss-crossing
the state on the two lane blacktop roads that preceded
the interestates, and visiting the cosmopolitan city of
Charleston. While compiling facts about South Carolina,
Mayhew rediscovered her fascination with the state and
its history, including Gullah, the musical language of
the coast, and the waterfalls and mountains of the West.
